Would you be surprised to know that 76.4% of commuters drive to work alone, and only 5% use mass transit? While these numbers aren’t as surprising when it comes to more rural areas, what about in big bustling cities where a majority of commuters find it easier to use mass transit, or even walk, instead of using their vehicle.
How many jobs are easily accessible to those that don’t drive to work? This infographic shares the results of a study that analyzes the accessibility to jobs by transit in 49 metropolitan areas in the United States with the largest populations. It breaks down the number of jobs that are reachable from the metro area within 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes.
New York City unsurprisingly comes out on top with the most jobs available for each of the 10-minute intervals. The 6,132 jobs reachable with 10 minutes is almost triple the amount that can be found in San Francisco, which claims the number two spot. NYC has almost 2.9 million jobs that can be reached within 60 minutes!
