Over the course of time, the regular intake of various beverages, foods, and specific habits can lead to the discoloration of teeth. Drinks such as coffee, tea, and red wine are the primary culprits responsible for tooth staining, while smoking cigarettes can also contribute to teeth turning brown. In order to assess the likelihood of individuals experiencing tooth discoloration, Imagix Dental's research team has developed the Discolored Teeth Index. This comprehensive index ranks all 50 states and major U.S. cities based on their consumption of teeth-staining drinks and the prevalence of smoking stains caused by cigarettes. Differing from studies that focus on dental care quality, this index specifically pinpoints locations where stained and discolored teeth are more common, regardless of an individual's dental habits. It is worth noting that even teeth considered to be healthy can become discolored due to a higher incidence of habits known to cause tooth stains, and this infographic covers the states where it's more likely to be found.
