How many people in the United States will have to face a cancer diagnosis this year? According to the American Cancer Society’s ‘Cancer Facts & Figures 2020’, more than 1.8 million Americans will get diagnosed with a new case of cancer this year. Sadly another 606,520 people are estimated to die from cancer in 2020. Using this data, the number of estimated new cases and deaths has been broken down into forty-six types of cancer to see which are the most commonly-diagnosed, and which ones are the deadliest.
The type of cancer that the most Americans will be diagnosed with this year is breast cancer at 279,100 new cases, which amounts to 15% of the total number of estimated new cases. As for the deadliest type of cancer, that title will go to lung and bronchus cancer with an estimated 135,720 deaths or 22% of the total deaths that have been estimated to occur in 2020.
