The world is a weirdly beautiful place and so are its people with their diverse cultures, rituals, lifestyles, and celebrations. Christmas is one such occasion that is celebrated almost all over the globe. And what is better than one Christmas a year? That’s right. Two Christmases a year!
Christmas in July:
While the entire Northern hemisphere gets to celebrate Christmas once every year,Australia and New Zealand go plus one every year celebrating another Christmas on July 25th,which is also known as Yule fest or Yuletide.
Since during December Australia experiences summer, they don’t want to be left out of the joy of celebrating Christmas in a winter setting. Hence, Yule fest or Christmas is celebrated in July.
The celebration:
Even though they have two Christmases,Aussies and Kiwis do not discriminate. The July Christmas is celebrated with equal joy and grandeur as the real one.Two of the most notable ways in which they celebrate the occasion are
- Sydneysiders take part in a traditional Blue Mountains roast
- Christmas illumination at Sovereign Hill
But the general spirit is that of a celebration of togetherness where families and friends get together and celebrate with a whole lot of food and fun.
