How Carbs Make You Fat

Carbohydrates are the compounds responsible for providing energy for our body. They are the fuel for various functions. The energy required for brain and nervous system is supplied by carbohydrates. While carbohydrates form an essential part of our diet, their excessive intake can have dire health consequences. Learn how carbs can make you fat in this infographic.

Carbohydrates are broken into sugars during digestion, before entering the bloodstream. Extra glucose will be stored as fat in the body. Hence the diet high in carbohydrates stores fat, which slowly increases body weight. Limiting fatty food consumption alone is not enough for losing weight, it's the carbs that should be restricted.

Foods like starches, liquid carbohydrates and easily digestible foods are the main causes of overweight and obesity. Studies found that diets rich in carbs and low in fat did not result in the declination of weight and heart disease, but instead resulted in the increase of diabetes and obesity.
