In 2022 a virus not commonly seen in the U.S. began to sweep through the nation, and throughout much of the world. Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, is often found in African countries but surprised health professionals when cases of it started being reported around the U.S. in May of 2022. You can find a state-by-state breakdown of the number of cases of mpox that were reported, and see which states had the highest rate of mpox cases, with this graphic from NYRequirements.com. Some of the states only had a handful of reported cases and they include Vermont and South Dakota with 3 cases each, Wyoming’s 4 cases, and Alaska’s 5 cases amounted to some of the lowest rates in the country. The states that had thousands of reported cases in 2022 were found to have some of the highest rates. They include New York, Georgia, California, Florida, Illinois, and Texas.
