Not only did they find the metro areas with the highest rates of murder, but they also found the areas that saw the largest increase, as well as decrease, in murder rates between 2010 and 2018. Pine Bluff, a small metro area in Arkansas, even tops the list for the highest murder rate in the country at 22.3 murders per every 100,000 residents. The metro area that came in second, Danville, Illinois; with a murder rate of 20.8 was found to have the largest increase since 2010 when the murder rate was just 1.3.
