For some of us, food is an essential element to keep our body alive and functioning. Now, among us mere mortals, there are a lot of people who are fascinated by food. They are curious about different flavors and spices used in individual dishes and they love to explore new food items from different countries and cultures across the globe. Food can reflect a lot more than its basic ingredients and the expertise of the one who cooks it.
Some food items become symbolic of certain cultures (like fried chicken and Southern part of USA or Rice and South Asian Countries),they contain socioeconomic indicators of the place they belong to and some even speak of the history of certain communities (like Soul food and the black community).
But there is another type of food fetish growing all around and that is of super-expensive food. These food items are mostly the luxury versions of dishes that are usually consumed quite frequently and are available at much lower prices. Then what makes these luxury dishes so much more expensive than their usual forms?
Well, here are some of the factors
- Usage of organic and fresh raw materials which themselves are expensive
- Super fancy garnishing like gold dust or gold leaves
- Complex cooking methods to give the average food item a luxe makeover
- Branding and marketing
