These past few years have brought about unprecedented changes, in part due to the pandemic and the arrival of AI. As society changes, so do the industries that support it. So what will be the fastest-growing and fastest-declining industries in the United States over the next decade? This infographic delves into data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to visualize the industries that are predicted to experience the greatest growth and greatest loss in employment from 2021 to 2031. The fastest-growing sectors are leisure, hospitality, healthcare, and social assistance. The fastest-growing industry is event promotion and agents and managers for talent. Is this because AI cannot replace creative talent? AI certainly cannot manage performers either (yet, hopefully never). The fastest-declining industry is tobacco manufacturing. In April 2023, the U.S. adult rate of smoking reached an all-time low of about 11%. Considering 42% of adults were smokers in the 1960s, this is an impressive change.
