Amongst 7,000 languages, Chinese is the most spoken language with 1.2 billion speakers. Spanish with 329 million speakers leads English, which has 328 million speakers. Japanese and German occupied 9th and 10th places when prepared list of the top 10 most spoken languages.
However, with the arrival of the internet, few languages experience rapid growth and other few recorded sluggish improvement in use. English speaking users in the internet increased from 187 million in 2000 to 565 million in 2011. Chinese speakers augmented from 34 million in 2000 to 509 million in 2011.
Chinese, Hindi/Urdu, English, Spanish, Arabic languages are expected to be the top five languages by 2050. However, researchers forecast 90% of world’s languages will be extinct by another 100 years.
