Which parts of the United States were found to have the largest racial disparities between white and black people when it comes to marijuana possession arrests? Using data collected by the ACLU, a law firm ranked the states on how much more likely it is for a black person to be arrested there for marijuana possession. Using this information they also shared the 50 counties across the country that were found to have the largest racial disparities in possession arrests, one of which had an unbelievable rate of black people being 97.3 times as likely to be arrested than a white person.
This high rate for Pickens County, Georgia was more than twice that of DeKalb County in Alabama, which came in second with a rate of 44.6x. You may also be shocked when you see the graph that outlines the largest increase in racial disparity between 2010 and 2018, all of which saw increases in the hundreds over these eight years!
