Many of us are familiar with pancakes but of course there are some facts about them that might not be as well known. Luckily the team at Kulick's Pancake Recipes designed this adorable chart of 20 pancake facts. Before baking soda was invented people would use snow to make them rise. Snow has a small amount of naturally occurring ammonia and that helps the pancakes become fluffy when cooked. It is easy to take a walk down the breakfast aisle and pick out a box of pancake mix for your Sunday brunch, but where did that mix begin? Back in 1889, the brand Aunt Jemima created pancake flour in the United States. This also happened to be the first ready-mix food available commercially. In prehistoric times, they would cook einkorn wheat grains to create a pancake that was cooked over an open fire. Evidence of this was found with a 5,300-year-old glacial mummy that was discovered in a cave in the Otztal Alps.
