Ethanol can be an alternate fuel for petrol or diesel. But it has its merits and demerits. When we talk about the advantages, mainly, the usage of ethanol reduces gas consumption and green emissions. The fuel burns pretty cleanly.
From drivers’ point of view, adding ethanol to gasoline increases the fuel’s octane rating and boosting performance. Ethanol made of corn reduces 10-20% of greenhouse emissions when compared to gasoline.
However, more land is required to produce ethanol. On the other hand, blending a fuel with ethanol can reduce fuel efficiency. Very limited gas stations offer E85 fuel.
