In the United States, the most common types of crimes are property crimes. One of these is arson, which is the malicious and intentional burning of property. Some commit arson due to insurance reasons, while others may do it for revenge. This infographic from Parker Waichman analyzes where the arson capitals of America actually are, by looking at U.S. cities that have populations of at least 25,000 people. The statistics, which are based on 2017 numbers per capita, ranks Chico, California as the arson capital of the country.
There, 170 arson offenses per 100,000 residents put them in the top spot. Not only that, but California may be the arson state in America. In the top 10 cities ranked, five of them were in California, and even 9 of the top 20 were. The top five cities included were Chico CA, Montebello CA, Detroit MI, Springfield OH, and Youngstown OH.
