Convoy Car Shipping researchers looked further into these dire statistics to map out the most dangerous counties and roadways in the country. They created separate maps for different population densities to reveal where the highest number of fatalities occur based on population.
Their findings showed these counties as the most dangerous in their population category:
- Volusia County, FL: 648 fatalities in a population of 579,192 people. The deadliest road is US-1 with 82 deaths.
- Ector County, TX: 257 fatalities in a population of 160,869 people. The deadliest road is 1-20 with 42 deaths.
- Fairfield County, SC: 62 fatalities in a population of 20,455 people. The deadliest road is SR-34 with 11 deaths.
- Loving County, TX: 15 deaths in a population of 51 people. The deadliest road is CR-300 with 7 deaths.
