There is more to trash and garbage than what meets the eye.

About 1/3rd of the trash collected from households is recycled. About 30% of this is paper. 14% of it is food waste which makes its way to the landfills. Another 14% is yard waste. 13% is plastic waste and only 8% of this was recycled, rest made their way to the landfills.

Metal forms less than 9% of the trash, but more than half of it is recycled. The rest of the trash comprises of wood, textiles, rubber and glass. Most of these also go to the landfill.

More than 90% of these wastes can be recycled but a large percentage still go to the landfills, polluting our soil and affecting our environment. Support recycling and use recycled goods as much as possible.
