Each and every day, it's estimated that an average of 29 people in America loses their lives due to car crashes that involve a drunk driver. That means that there's one death every 50 minutes! 28% of all traffic-related deaths (in 2016 alone) in the United States were those that involved alcohol-impaired drivers, resulting in 10,497 total lives lost. Not only that, but it's estimated that 16% of car crashes in America involve either alcohol or drugs.
This infographic from Smart Advocate uses data from the County Health Rankings (2014-2018) for every county across the country and ranks them based on their total number of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities. Over that period of time, it was Los Angeles County in California that had the highest number of fatalities due to drunk drivers with 901. Behind Los Angeles was Harris County, Texas with 749 and Maricopa County, Arizona with 566 deaths.
