The year 2020 has been unprecedented in many ways. With a staggering 42% percent of the U.S. labor force now working from home full-time, it is no wonder that the real estate market is now booming. Homes are selling rapidly, and new homes are being constructed at a rapid rate. However, the demand is struggling to keep up with the supply. In September, the National Association of Realtors reported that the total housing inventory could run out in under 3 months. This infographic shows where the most new homes are popping up.
The map shows an overall trend to the west and south, with The Villages, Florida, St. George, Utah, Austin, Texas, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Boise, Idaho being the top five cities with the most new homes. None of the northeastern states make the list as the population in this region declines or remains stagnant.
