Obesity in America is a growing problem, as it affects not only the individual but the economy as well. In 2010, more than 60% Americans were either overweight or obese. And it is being forecasted that if this trend continues, 50% of Americans will fall under the obese category.
How the economy gets affected? To fit the obese people, the seats in the public transports are being widened, the revolving doors had to be widened from 10 feet to 12 feet and even the toilet seats in public places are being redone.
This increase in obesity can be contributed to the fact that there is a huge change in the eating habits of the people. The portion sizes of the foods have increased. The fast food industry is also not helping in this regard as their sales have gone up from $107 billion to $164 billion.
