Fosamax Side Effects

Fosamax is a generic drug that was approved by the United States Food and Drug administration (FDA) authority to treat the patients suffering with osteoporosis.

Recent studies have proved that Fosamax can be useful in treating osteoporosis in women, to increase bone mass and treat men or women suffering with the Paget's disease of bone. Fosamax is available in solution and tablet form. The Fosamax tablet is available in dosage of 5 mg, 10 mg, 35 mg, 40 mg and 70 mg.

Usually Fosamax is taken through oral route and the common side effects associated with Fosamax are stomach pain, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, stomach upset, joints pain and nausea. It can cause other serious side effects such as esophagus problems, jaw bone problems, hypocalcemia and thigh bone fractures.

According to study laid by Journal of the American medical association, it was determined that usage of Fosamax for a period of five year can break the bones and the usage of Fosamax has increased the risk of typical Femur fracture by 47.3 times.
