It was in 1831 that SS Royal William set out from the United Kingdom, and was named the largest passenger ship on earth. It was 49 meters long and could hold more than 155 passengers, and would hold the title of the largest passenger ship until 1837 when it was dethroned by another ship from the United Kingdom: the SS Great Western.
