Medical history has gone through a sea change from what it used to be at one point of time. In days of the past, there have been quite a few medical practices that in recent times would be not just highly doubted but also be banned from being practiced.
In the 18th and 19th century, there were practices that would in the present only qualify as being utterly ridiculous. For instance, the practice of cutting half of a person’s tongue in an attempt to cure a patient’s shuttering was a quite common practice.
There was also the ice pick method by with a patient’s frontal lobe was severed from the rest of the brain in order to calm their emotion and it is unsurprising that this did not always give the desired effect.
