Legionnaire's disease or legionnaire’s pneumonia is a kind of atypical pneumonia that affects a significant number of people across the globe.
Even though over 32,000 cases of this disease have been reported in between the years 1995 and 2005, illnesses related to Legionella bacteria mostly go undiagnosed worldwide,especially in the developing countries.
The history of Legionnaire’s Disease :
- The first case occurred in Philadelphia,1976. Around 2000 participants of the American Legion convention were affected.
- The April of 1985 saw 175 people affected in Stafford,England.
- In 1999,during the Westfriese Flora flower exhibition in Bovenkarspel,Netherlands, a large outbreak of this disease occurred
- So far the largest breakout that the world has seen of legionnaire’s happened in July 2001, in Murica,Spain with over 800 people reportedly affected and six of them dying due to it.
