The oldest railway system of the world can be found in UK which developed in the early 1800s as a local rail system that was being operated by the private companies for moving their cargo from one place to another.
The passenger train rolled out of the Oystermouth Railway in 1807 where horses were used to draw carriages over the tramline at 2.5 miles per hour. Over the years, the system developed and out came the electric train in 1904 and in the year 1914, Great Britain had almost 130 individual railways with 23 thousand locomotives and 73,000 carriages.
Now, almost 1.6 billion people make use of this technology that has seen drastic changes since the time the steam engine was invented.
