The widespread usage of internet in every walk of life is a fact known to everyone. From its advent as in the 1950s and conspicuous presence since 1990s, the internet is has penetrated every aspect of our life providing news, entertainment, communication and shopping among many others. The annual growth in the number of internet users is increasing at an alarming rate.
The global internet community has more than tripled in less than a decade between from 2000 to 2009, from 394 million to 1.9 billion respectively. As of April 2012, the total user count reached 2.4 billion and still counting.
The infographic then goes on to explain the daily global usage by numbers. 83% of the users in North African and Middle East countries access internet everyday of which 99% spend more than 30 minutes browsing.
About 25% of them spend more than at least 5 hours on it. US, China, India, Japan and Brazil are among the top internet users in the world.
At 100 million users, India ranked the top most in the countries with the most number of daily users.
Coming to the USA, of adult users: 91% seek information, 30% make online calls, 78% read news, 88% access email and 67% use social networking. In addition 69% of smart phone users also access internet.
