It was in the mid 1980s when a computer manufacturer named Symbolics registered the first ever domain name in the world. March 15, 1985 marked the birth of Symbolics.com, which today serves as a museum of sorts for the many "firsts" that we've seen in technology. Since this domain was registered, we've seen millions of domain names registered in countries all over the world. With this new infographic, the research team at Nominus looked into which countries have the most popular top-level domains in the world.According to their research, it was found that the countries with the most country code top-level domains (CCTLD) worldwide were Germany (.de) with 16.1 million, the United Kingdom (.uk) with 10.5 million, China (.cn) with 8.9 million, Gabon (.ga) with 7 million, Netherlands (.nl) with 5.6 million, Central Africa Republic (.cf) with 5.3 million, Mali (.ml) with 5.3 million, Tokelau (.tk) with 5 million, Russia (.ru) with 4.9 million and Brazil (.br) with 4.3 million.
