Where is Your Diamond Coming From

infographic-the-truth-about-conflict-diamonds

Diamond has always been considered as one of the most auspicious gems as well as a good luck charm, which is one of the main reason for it being used in ornaments as well as in most other important occasions of life.

A Wedding is mostly considered incomplete without a diamond and it makes the best anniversary gift for a woman. But before including a diamond into one’s life, people don't normally stop to think about the life cycle of the diamond and exactly where it might be coming from.

Diamonds are majorly found in the African subcontinent specifically in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo. As these countries are still developing and proper democracy is yet to be established in them, there are various social evils related to the job of diamond mining. Child labor, Poverty, Violence and safety issues are few of them.

Not just these issues but the rebel groups in these countries are known to trade rough uncut diamonds for financing their arms requirements. Although the above countries are said to be conflict free there are many human right violations, trade violations as well as environmental violations that make diamond mining a necessary evil.
