Most people park outdoors full time (vs. garage parking) and worry about the damage that can occur to their cars as a result. How big are the risks, and where are the most dangerous places to park?
Auto Shop Accessories conducted a one-of-a-kind survey to answer these questions. The results were both expected and surprising. The main takeaway was that the majority of cars are parked outdoors full time and face real damage from scratches and dings.
Over 70% of car owners park their cars outdoors 24/7/365. At some point in a car’s life, the odds of it being damaged are high:
- 38% with dings or scratches
- 40% pranked
- 28% robbed
- Over a third, pelted by bird poo, tree sap or tree leaves.
Even if you do not have a garage, you can do a lot to mitigate potential damage. Park defensively. Do not park near large trucks, in tight spaces, near construction sites, under trees, et cetera. Use common sense and most damage can be avoided. Also, use car covers. The best ones offer real protection at affordable prices.
Knowing the risks is the first step. Our survey should provide you with a great start to better protecting your car.
