Coffee at the local coffee shops cost $2 per cup.
Most of us are under the impression that it would cost us much less if we were to brew it at home. Lets look into the economics of brewing home made coffee.
A bag of Holler Mountain costs $15 and makes approximately 45 spoons of ground coffee powder. This amounts to 33 cents per spoon. To make a 16 ounce drink, we require 4 table spoons of the ground which costs $1.32. So compared to the coffee int he store you save 68 cents.
Similarly, a bag of Starbucks costs $12.95 and makes 60 spoons of powder. To make a 16 ounce drink one needs 5 table spoons. This amounts to $1.17 per cup as against the $2 per cup at the store. So you save a measly 78 cents per cup.
