While it was being developed, whenever we heard about the new Xbox, its name was Durango. We knew it was just a code term for the project, but then the name “Infinity” came along and that question seemed settled.
However, Microsoft decided to surprise us when it revealed that the new Xbox would be called One. If we were stunned at the time, we soon realized why the new name made sense: because the new Xbox wants to be your one and only, exactly like an overly attached girlfriend.
After the release of the console, Microsoft revealed that the Xbox One would need to be constantly connected to the Internet to work. “It will bring a lot of benefits”, they said, without convincing us, but making us accept the terms.
Also, players would have to check in with the Xbox Live every 24 hours. And there was more: restrictions on digital rights management would mean that players couldn’t share games that easily, among so many other crazy rules. Clingy girlfriend alert?
Of course, the players’ reception to the new features was extremely negative, forcing Microsoft to change its ways before the relationship got definitely sour. So, in response, on June 19, the company gave in and changed the rules all over again in order to make this romance work.
With more reasons to love her now, we’re still not sure if all the effort is worth it, as you know she will keep following your every move. Let’s wait and see how this love story will end.
