
PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a secret password that is often helpful in accessing a system and it shared between the user and system to authenticate the user on entering correct password.
PIN's are mostly associated with usage of debit and credit cards. To generate a four digit pin number using the numbers 0- 9, more than 10,000 combinations can be generated. In most of the cases, PIN's are assigned by the respective authorities and later it changed as per user's desire.
There are 20 commonly used PIN numbers like 1234, 1111, 0000, 7777 etc and 26.83% of all accounts can be hacked by using these 20 pin combinations. Of these several passwords, 1234 is the most popular password.
Out of total PIN's available, 17.8% are repeating couplet pairs such as 1212, 1414 etc. Reports depict that 61% of all codes can be decoded by trying out 61 distinct combinations.
To be secure from the hacking attacks, it is suggested to use different PIN's for different cards.
