Reptiles are species which have been around since the time of the dinosaurs and are believed to have evolved from amphibians. Reptiles come in various sizes, ranging from 5 inches to 23 feet. Reptiles are found in varied kinds of environments such as deserts and swamps etc.
This species of animals are very diverse in nature but one feature which is common in most of them is the presence of scales on their body which are composed of Keratin. These scales protect the reptiles by forming a waterproof layer so that reptiles can exist even without water.
The Argentinosaurus is the largest known reptile and had a length of 120 feet. The Green anaconda which has a length of 29 feet is the largest currently existing reptile on the planet followed by saltwater crocodile which is as large as 23 feet.
Reticulated Python is considered to be one of the largest known reptiles in the world as it has a length of 22.8 feet.
American crocodile has a length of 20 feet while Gavial too has the same body length and both of these reptiles are counted as the largest ones. Some other large reptiles are King Cobra, Komodo dragon, water monitor and Galapagos Tortoise.
