When you think of popular car models you might think of Mustangs, or Camaros or Lamborghinis but, for most of us with a limited budget, those cars are pipe dreams. The most popular car brands in the US have always been cars that the public finds are the best value. Cars that have the highest safety ratings, best gas mileage and those vehicles that hold up against the test of time. Luckily for us we have this great chart from Alan's Factory Outlet that shows the best-selling car models through the years. For the start of the chart, the Oldsmobile Cutlass reigned supreme from 1978 to 1981.
Then in 1982 the Ford Escort was the top seller just until 1983 when it went back to the Oldsmobile Supreme. Chevy, Ford and Honda then went back and forth as most popular from 84 to 91. The Ford Taurus then took over with the most models sold from 92 to 96. This would be the last few years before Toyota would dominate the rest of the graph with the Camry being the top selling vehicle from 1997 to 2020 where the chart ends.
