Looking at this graph from How To Cook Recipes we can see the largest grocery stores in the US by sales and the conglomerates that own them. Taking the top 50 food and grocery retailers including wholesalers, mass merchandisers, dollar stores, convenience stores and drugstores based on their public sales from 2020 to 2021. The first company at the top of the list is Walmart which is also the parent company of Sam's Club. Walmart made more than $433 billion dollars during the 20-21 fiscal year, almost double the sales of the company ranked 2nd, Amazon. Many people may not even consider Amazon a grocery store but they own Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go with 539 stores in the US. Amazon made 236 billion in sales in the 20-21 fiscal year.
