
From the time Voting Rights Act was passed in Texas, there has been huge increase in the number of blacks who have registered to cast their vote for either democratic candidate or the Republican candidate. Till the year 1944, an estimated 200,000 of black have furnished details for vote registrations and subsequently the number has risen to 700,000 by the year 1948.
In 1965, for first time the Voting Rights Act was passed in Texas and it lead to a huge discrimination among the several categories of voters. The number of black registered voters in Texas was 100,000 in 1947 and with several changes to the voting laws, the registered voters number has reached 1,242,000 in 2012.
