The first South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival (SXSW) was held in 1987. Only 150 audiences were expected to be present but over 700 turned up. In 1994, SXSW added a film and interactive component called as SXSW film and multimedia conference.
In later years, the SXSW has undergone many developments. For instance, in 1999, SXSW multimedia was renamed SXSW Interactive. When we look at the SXSW demographics of 2011, 31% of registrants are from the age group of 21-30 years.
While 40% of attendees aged 31-40 years, 19% of registrants are 41-50 years old. Some of the top reasons behind many companies choose to launch at SXSW are: availability of wide array of tech disciplines, attendees are ready to publicize and broadcast their onions.
