How Social Media is Assisting The Burglars

How social media is assisting the burglars

Until last few years, burglars have to search for empty homes or look at obituaries page to plan a robbery. But with the advent of technology and immense usage of social media, it has become easy for the burglars to gather information about the home owners and trace their movements.

In today’s world, every consumer would love to share their present or current location across different social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram etc. Generally users either on Facebook or Twitter tend to share what they are buying, where they are eating and their plans for the upcoming vacation.

It has been convicted that more than 75% of burglars have used Twitter, Facebook and FourSqaure to trace out the targets and with Google Street View, burglars are collecting more clues and having a close look at the home in different directions to find a safe way to reach the home.

By making few advanced searches on Facebook and FourSquare, burglars can easily tailor different groups of people who are leaving the country by checking the airport lounges on FourSquare and these searches that they made can be saved to set future targets.

Social media platforms to draw its user’s attraction started repeatedly geo-tagging the exact location where the person is and burglars after tracking it for few times can easily find out the visiting times of the user and check when the person is not available at the home.
