
There are about 32000 described species known to man and many more which haven’t still been discovered or categorized. Ranging from a large whale or a shark to a fish with a length of a few centimeters, these species show incredible variety and diversity.
Fishes with a diverse number of body forms and characteristics have been studied and listed by many researchers. Out of these thousands of species of fishes, many of them are characteristically small in size. The following is a list of the smallest known fishes across the world.
Photocorynus Spiniceps is the smallest fish in the entire world and this is due to its body length of a mere 6.2 mm. Another small species of fish which is infact one of the smallest in the world is Paedocypris. This fish is just 7.9 mm in length. With a body length of 8.4 mm only, Schindleria Brevipinguis is the third smallest fish in the world followed by Dwarf Pygmy Goby which is 9 mm in length.
Dwarf Gobies is 10mm in length and is thus among some of the smallest fishes in the world. Sinarapan comes next with a body length of 12.5 mm while Boraras Maculatus is another small variety of fish. Some other smallest fishes include Ram Cichlid, Hemigrammus Filamentosus and African Banded Barb.
