
Skin Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer; it is more common than lung, breast colorectal and prostate cancer combined, more than 3.5 million are diagnosed with skin cancer annually.
There are 3 kinds of skin cancer Melanoma, Squamous cell carcinoma, Basal cell Carcinoma. Skin cancer is mostly caused by UV radiation, but there are different factors responsible for it including blue or green eyes, red or blonde hair, smoking tobacco, fair skin or numerous moles, tanning beds, hereditary, exposing to coal and arsenic and repeated x-ray exposure.
It can be prevented by using sunscreen, avoiding tobacco, avoiding indoor tanning, wear clothing to protect skin from sun exposure, avoiding sun exposure between 10 AM to 4 PM and yearly dermatological visits for skin check up will help in prevention of skin cancer.
Treatment includes excision, cryosurgery, electrosurgery, Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy.
