Technology has infiltrated every nook and corner of our everyday lives. Specifically, there has been a rising interest in the sub-category of wearable technology – gadgets that we can carry on or even within our bodies for various purposes, such as lifelogging and quantifying our lives.
Examples of these include Google Glass, the Memoto Lifelogging Camera, Apple iWatch, Nike+ Fuelband, FitBit and so on. With the availability of such advanced and increasingly portable technology, is it difficult to imagine how wearable technology devices looked like in the past. And curious as we are, we asked ourselves these questions: what were these devices used for and how did we arrive at today’s gadgets?
As we did our research, we realized that wearable technology dates back to the 1200s, starting with the invention of the eyeglasses. Although the kinds of wearable technology in the past differ very much from those we see today, we are glad to have taken this trip down memory lane to see how wearable tech has evolved.
Perhaps one day, the advanced wearable tech devices that we see today or in the coming years will be archived and deemed to be extremely ordinary yet inseparable from our daily endeavors. Who knows? Only time will tell.
