The world’s population has immensely grown over the past 200 years. Over the next forty years, nearly all (97%) of the 2.3 billion projected increase will be in the less developed regions such as Africa, Asia (including Japan), Latin America, the Caribbean, etc.
By contrast, the populations of more developed countries such as Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, etc will remain flat. As populations continue to rise rapidly in the coming years, the ability to supply clean water for drinking and sustainable water for agriculture, to provide the most basic health services, will be affected adversely.
