As if the presentation of Miley Cyrus at this year’s VMAs wasn’t shocking enough, the singer admitted that if it depended on her, the performance of the song “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke would have been even more controversial. Why? Because the ex-Hannah Montana wanted to do a topless stage performance during the event, like Cyrus revealed recently to one of her idols, Britney Spears, during the making of the documentary “Miley: The movement after Toxic”.
Britney Spears, another important star and creative performer of the music industry, asked if Miley was going to actually be able to show everything. The singer who made the movement “twerk” famous said she tried, but the MTV didn't allow the gesture. “If you can stand [topless] before 90,000 people, there is not much anyone can do to stop you. If I can do it, then I can do anything. There is no other life for me beyond entertainment. I was born to be who I am now”, she told the singer of “Oops!... I did it again”.
For Miley Cyrus, the controversial performance at the VMAs was a central point in her career, the one that divided the waters between her previous and the current public image she displays. But she wasn't the first to shock the world of music and the fans, lots of singers like Britney Spears did it before. And let’s not forget about Madonna, who started all this. And you know what all these girls have in common? They are all in our above infographic!
