2013 has been an epic year in terms of lung cancer awareness and the fight against this particular type of cancer. With the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issuing a draft for low-dose CT scans to screening those at risk, this move guarantees that high-risk populations under public insurance providers such as Medicare will be covered.
Lung Cancer being the deadliest cancer of the lot takes away hundreds of thousands of lives every year. One in every fourteen Americans is diagnosed with lung cancer putting smokers as well as non-smokers as risk population. Current smokers have a much higher change of contracting the cancer although 50% of all those who have been diagnosed with lung cancer have been found to be non-smokers.
Lung Cancer Alliance is committed to saving lives by helping people, accelerating research and advancing screening providing live, professional support, referral and information services to patients, their loved ones and those at risk for lung cancer; conducting national awareness campaigns; and advocates for multiple millions in public health dollars for lung cancer research.
