Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India, who served his term of office from 15th August 1047 till 27th May, 1964. The next term was served by Gulzarilal Nanda, Lal Bahadur Shastri and then again Gulzarilal Nanda who has their term of office from 27th May 1964 - 9th June 1964 , 9 June 1964 – 11th January 1966 and 11th January 1966-24th January 1966 respectively.
The next prime minister of India was Indira Gandhi who was served 2 terms of office which were from 2th January 1966 to 24th March 1977 and 14th January 1980 to 31st October 1984. Moraji Desai served as prime minister of India from 24th of March 1977 to 28th July 1979 whereas Charan Singh was prime minister from 28th July 1979 to 14th January 1980.
Rajiv Gandhi who was born in 1944 became prime minister on 31st October 1984 and served till 2nd December 1989. Next was VP Singh whose term of office stands from 2nd December 1989 to 10th November 1990. Chandra Shekhar was prime minister from 10th November 1990 to 21st June 1991 whereas P.V. Narasimha Rao served his office from 21st June 1991 till 16th May 1996.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the prime minister of India for 2 terms out of which the first one was from 16th May, 1996 to 1st June 1996 and the other one was from 19th March 1998 to 22nd May 2004. H.D. Deve Gowda served as prime minister from 1st June 1996 to 21st April 1997 and Inder Kumar Gujral was prime minister from 21st April 1997 till 19th March, 1998.
The present prime minister of India is Dr. Manmohan Singh who is serving his term of office since 22nd May, 2004.
