Jane Austen was born to George Austen and Cassandra Austen on 16th December, 1775. She was an English Novelist and wrote romantic fictions predominantly. She is famous for her social commentaries, found in ample amounts in all her works.
Six of her novels have been published till now, of which Pride and Prejudice is the most well known one. She wrote two of those six novels posthumously and the third one, her seventh novel was being written at the time of her death.
Jane Austen is renowned for being one of the few Victorian woman novelists. She is one of the three women to appear in the UK currency note.
Till date, there have been more than 60 film and TV adaptations of her 6 novels. According to BBC, three of her works, namely, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion and Emma, occupy proud places among the Top 50 favorite novels of the British.
She never got married. Once she accepted a proposal from a man, but turned him down the next day. She was the icon of the liberated Victorian woman, which by itself is an oxymoron. But nevertheless, in her times, she definitely stood out.
