Gold is considered as the most precious metal available on earth after diamond and platinum. A geological survey predicts that 500 tonnes of rocks in the geosphere contains only 5 grams of gold. And till date the total gold that was mined from the earth crust is 167,000 tonnes.
The current value of the gold available in all gold markets across the world is $ 8 trillion. The average size of the gold leaf is 100 nanometers and by using 60 tonnes of gold, you can make a thick wire that stretches from earth to sun. The total gold that was supplied in the year 2011 was 4,000 tonnes of which 1,600 tonnes were recycled and 2.800 tonnes of gold was extracted from mines.
Out of total national foreign exchange reserves in America, 77% is contributed from the gold reserves. The total gold available in the world is nearly equal to two times the total area of New Jersey.
