
The prices of food grains during 2005 to 2011 increased drastically. For instance, price of rice is hiked 102%, similarly for wheat 115% and maize 204%.
It seems few countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, Sri Lanka who highly depend on rice will no more be able to consume rice as main course. At the same time, their dietary quality and nutrition status may be decreased.
The spending capacity on nutrient food has been influenced after prices increase. Dependency on staple grains is increased.
