Addiction to anything is always considered a bad thing but then when you can’t stop drinking and start making a nuisance of yourself; it is taking your addiction too far.
Just topping the drinking does not mean that you are not addicted anymore. It is like a chronic disease that will come back without you having the slightest hint and even one sip could take you back to being an alcoholic. Which is why, the real threats of alcoholism, more than the addiction are relapse and cross-addiction.
Attending AA meetings always help. When you see people around you staying sober for days, months and years at an end, it gives you the motivation and push to attempt it yourself. Also counselling help a lot because talking out your problems with someone who might help you with them, making your mind and heart clear, helps with wanting to stay sober.
