When a child loses a tooth, it is an important developmental milestone in their life. Even during the early ages, children's teeth meant a lot to their parents. They could be a good luck charm, a sign of good things to come or just a celebration of the end of adolescence. It wasn't until the 1900's that the origin of the tooth fairy appeared in a news article. Since then, the tooth fairy has visited children who leave their fallen teeth under a pillow and in exchange left them money. This has gone from a few cents in the 20's to almost 9 dollars in 2021. This map from the team at
Dental Care Alliance shows the amount per tooth that the tooth fairy is now dishing out across the US. How does your state rank against the highest payouts like Delaware's $8.91? Or Hawaii's $8.39? If you are like me who grew up in Massachusetts in the 90's I got about 75 cents. Today kids in Mass are at least getting around $2.48 for their precious baby teeth.
