How Much Did Popular Cars Cost Every Year Since 1950? (After Inflation)

In 1986, the median home price was $84,000 or $220,349 in today's dollars. The most popular song in 86' was "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. The two highest grossing films of 1986 were Top Gun and Crocodile Dundee, respectively. Crocodile Dundee would become one of my favorite childhood movies and Top Gun, was one of my favorite teenage girl movies thanks to Tom Cruise. A popular 1986 car cost around $23,000 in today's cash. The Chevy Celebrity was one of America's best-selling automobiles and coincidentally my father wanted one but couldn't because of me (sorry dad!). This chart from Title Max shows some of the most popular cars from 1950 to 2020 along with their price in today's dollars. The model T is also thrown in for scale at and it would have cost you $24,835 in today's dollars back in 1918! What was the popular car when you were born and could you afford it today?
